In 2005 I saw a documentary about Henri Cartier-Bresson. At the same time, I held a series of classes with a decisive moment theme. It was then that I knew I wanted to explore this subject further. By then I had already studied lighting in the studio and thus it was eye-opening to see photos with lights and shadows in ordinary everyday moments. This lightbulb moment drove me to shoot photos on the streets and to follow the footsteps of Cartier-Bresson.

”Seeing is everything,” has been said by Cartier-Bresson. I thought that seeing meant only a visual aspect but as a professional photographer, I’ve become to realize it is so much more. The concept ”to see” has now a broader meaning that includes the usage of all senses. In order to take the images we want, we, as photographers, have to use all our senses in a photoshoot. And this is not dependent on the subject or place. To me seeing now means living in the moment and taking the photo at the right time, making sure to release the button at that precise moment.

I have captured these exhibition photos during 2015 and 2016. They have been shot in New York, Barcelona, St Petersburg, and Hong Kong. The collection of photos from different continents, cultures, and cities brings together these 3 themes: diverse contacts in real life, today’s culture of sharing and connecting via modern technology, and, of course, the composure of the decisive moment.
