There’s no photography training without people who want to learn.

Thanks for this journey I’ve done belongs to all these people I’ve worked with – to learn something new about photography, that passion we share together. Thank you all <3

I appreciate highly The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title by myself. I realized that while my presentation when tears came out. And still tears come out when I think about it.

Among others I want to thank jury too; they valued my journey worth of Master Photographer Title. Actually they opened it up to me: “this Master Photographer Title is not given to photography guidebooks but it’s given to Tiina Puputti”.

Journey will continue 🙂

The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title

The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title is highest title which FPPA awards. I applied title for field of Photography Training and I used my two photography guidebooks as examples: Light & lighting – Portraits in studio and location and POSE – Guidance of the Model. Of course it wasn’t only about books, it was about the journey I’ve done while writing them. That journey has been all about:

– Get inspired and express yourself with positive attitude – Basis of my way of thinking and working

– Light & lighting – deeper understanding of profession, professional skills and know-how, and on my way to sharing knowledge to others

– POSE – sharing, communality, building your brand and marketing

In the jury there were Chief in Editor of National Camera Magazine, Asko Vivolin, who also teaches himself. Krister Löfroth, professional photographer, who’s been in FPPA’s different juries for years and he has also The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title. Third member of the jury was professional photographer Rita Lukkarinen, who’s been also in FPPA’s different juries for years and she has also The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title. Among that Krister has just finished his photography book about Best Photographers in Finland, and Rita has made several books and she also publishes them.

I applied The Master Photographer of the FPPA Title October 26th, 2015 in FPPA’s Annual Meeting in Hämeenlinna. Part of application is presentation where applicant presents portfolio, examples, way of thinking etc. I shared my way of thinking how I constructed my two books, that they are professional level, educational and easy to read and learn.

“Light & Lighting: My aim is to do photography guidebook which doesn’t stay in bookcase, but it’s in use all the time and photographer carries it in camera bag. Among that book is a guidebook, where photographer can check tips for light, lighting, storytelling, composition, angle of view etc just before photo shoot.

1 Basics of Portraiture Lighting in studio and location

2 Professional level guidebook

3 Educational, clear and practical

4 Based on Functional Photography – Image is based on storytelling and message which is thought before taking it

5 Timeless

POSE is photographer’s guidebook and non-fiction book. It gives tips to timeless, classical and photographical poses in Portraiture. Book consists of cases which deal with different kind of portrait photo shoots from babies to elderly people. Aim of POSE is to be timeless guidebook of poses for photographer.

1 Basics of guiding models in photo shoots & timeless and photographical poses

2 Professional level guidebook

3 All photo shoots in location and use on basic lighting techniques

4 Educational, clear and practical

5 Based on Functional Photography – Image is based on storytelling and message which is thought before taking it

6 Timeless”

My application was part of FPPA’s Annual Meeting, so I appreciated that there were several colleagues to support me. Thank you for that <3

And the end of my presentation I couldn’t help myself crying. I realized that all my journey is about people – There’s no photography training without people who want to learn – and I saw all of them in front of my eyes. I felt happy, relieved and like “I’ve done all I could”. And there were more and more tears.

While crying and wiping the tears I listened what jury said to me – they said many things, but one thing kind of hit me: “this Master Photographer Title is not given to photography guidebooks but it’s given to Tiina Puputti”. Never really thought of that earlier.

Some more tears…

And after that FPPA’s Executive Director Anna Kaleva-Tsagklas hugged me warmly 🙂

… and then the other members of association, with who I’ve worked already several years in different projects.

Then it was for first interview which was organized my colleague, Mikaela Holmberg. Local newspaper made story of my application and you can check it from Reska’s website – if you know any Finnish 🙂

Great to pose with all tears and red nose 😀
